Through their Reform Alliance organization, rappers Jay-Z and Meek Mill have donated 100,000 surgical masks to several U.S. correctional facilities.
The masks will be distributed to the Tennessee Department of Corrections, the Mississippi State Penitentiary and Rikers Island in New York, according to People.
Slate reported last week that an estimated 231 inmates and 223 staff members at Rikers have been infected with coronavirus. Patrick Jones is the first federal inmate to die from coronavirus, twenty days after a judge refused to end his sentencing in Louisiana for a non-violent drug offense in the 90s.
