Akon will be taking his ventures to help out Africa with an unconventional approach. During a seminar in Cannes Lions, the "Locked Up" rapper said he'll be launching a cryptocurrency called "Akoin".
This cryptocurrency is meant to bring the power back to the people. Essentially he'll be making an economy that's untouched by Africa's current government.
“I think that blockchain and crypto could be the savior for Africa in many ways because it brings the power back to the people and brings the security back into the currency system," Akon said. "Also allows the people to utilize it in ways where they can advance themselves and not allow government to do those things that are keeping them down."
Akon isn't the first rapper to attempt to create their own non-government controlled economy. Ol' Dirty Bastard previously launched "Dirty Coin".
