On Monday the Los Angeles Police Department issued a warning to residents and visitors alike about what officials describe as an “ongoing crime trend.”
A surge in violent street robberies made the the LAPD’s elite Robbery-Homicide Division aware of the what was going on, according to a safety alert from police.
The thieves are finding their victims from places like Melrose Avenue, downtown’s Jewelry District, nightclubs and high-end restaurants. They are also looking for expensive items, like jewelry, watches and purses.
After picking their victim, the thieves will usually follow the person to their home or work, that's when they will rob them upon arrival, the police bulletin stated.
Arrests have been made in connection with the crimes, LAPD added, but the number of people arrested is unknown.
