Officials in the city of Miami Beach have declared a state of emergency after a weekend that included shootings and massive spring break crowds.

The state of emergency includes a midnight curfew beginning Wednesday.

Since the start of spring break, at least five people have been shot on Ocean Drive and several police officers hurt in large, party crowds.

When Mayor Dan Gelber was asked if a curfew will really change anything, he responded, "It's very hard to deter idiots and criminals from doing things."
