A Tennessee man who was leading police on a high-speed chase threw his own severed penis out of the vehicle during the pursuit, police say.
Police say 39-year-old Tyson Gilbert sitting in his car, blocking traffic, on Tuesday when they attempted to approach him.
Gilbert sped off and soon officers from "multiple police departments" were pursuing the man, according to a report from Tennessee Highway Patrol. "He was all over the road the whole time," says Trooper Bobby Johnson. "He turned off on Old Liberty Road and came to a stop. He opened his door. He was naked and covered in blood. He then shut his door and kept driving."
When police finally boxed him in after a 30-mile chase, Gilbert told them he'd lopped off his penis because "voices in his head" had told him to, according to his arrest report.
It's unclear if officers recovered his discarded penis.
