For the first time ever, the city of Los Angeles is launching a fireworks buyback program in order to crack down on the use of illegal fireworks.

Mission Hills will host the first fireworks buyback program June 30 at Brand Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We want to encourage members of our community to voluntarily turn in these dangerous fireworks, these dangerous explosives,” Los Angeles City Councilmember Monica Rodriguez said.

“They’re a threat to public safety in our community. They pose larger dangers for our hillsides in particular.”

According to LA Police Chief Michel Moore, the city will offer folks a "gift" in exchange for illegal fireworks.
