Twitter has announced it will relaunch its verification for accounts in January.

Due to confusion over the verified program and the perception that Twitter was endorsing verified accounts, Twitter discontinued it.

Now verification will return with changes such as:

  1. Loosening requirements for a complete profile, you no longer will need a profile bio or image in the header.
  2. Users will need a Wikipedia article to be categorized as "notable."
  3. The news category will include journalists.
  4. The sports category will include eSports.
  5. The entertainment category will include digital content creators.

The new policy goes into effect on January 20, 2021.

Accounts at risk of losing their verification badge will receive an email.
