Authorities in Edmonton, Alberta, are begging residents to stop calling 911 to report COVID-19 violations.
In a statement issued Sunday, Edmonton Police Department officials reveal they've been "swamped with calls from vigilant residents reporting people who aren't wearing masks or practicing social distancing."
While authorities say they applaud the effort to keep everyone in check, they're reminding residents that 911 is for "emergencies only."
The request comes as Alberta Health reports 1,608 new COVID cases and nine additional deaths.
There are currently 435 residents in the hospital, 95 of whom are in intensive care, health officials say.
