Helicopter Carrying Donated Heart Crashes On Top of USC Hospital

A helicopter from San Diego transporting a donor's heart crashed on top of the Keck Hospital helipad at USC around 3 p.m. on Friday.

The pilot has minor injures from the crash.

The helicopter tipped over on the helipad, and the tail was hanging from the building.

The heart was safely retrieved by firefighters and given to hospital staff. Within two hours of the crash, the organ was being transplanted into the patient for which it was intended, Keck Hospital of USC reported.
