California Approves Task Force to Examine 'Slavery Reparations' California

Governor Gavin Newsom has signed off on creating a task force that will be charged with examining the possibility of making financial reparations to the descendants of slaves. In signing the bill, which calls for the creation of a nine-member committee, Newsom said his only regret was that it hadn't been passed "decades ago." He continued, "This is not just about California; this is about making an impact, and a dent, across the rest of the country." In accordance with the bill, the task force will be required to hold its first meeting in June. It will be expected to submit its recommendations one year later, per the bill. Will paying the descendants of slaves erase that ugly period from U.S. history? Would it be better for the government to put more effort into making equal rights a reality?
