Tyrese says that he suffered colorism as a child and while growing up in Los Angeles.
The revelation comes as Tyrese is the subject of TV One’s Uncensored.
“I caught every joke in the dark skin community ever. I was Black, burnt, tarp. I was all teeth and eyes. I was blurple — Black and purple. I just never felt attractive,” recalled Tyrese.
The hurtful comments gave Tyrese self-esteem issues and it wasn’t until he experienced success as a singer and actor that his self-confidence soared.
“It did more for my confidence than you can ever imagine because it was a high that I would hope to experience for the rest of my life,” said Tyrese.
