Jimmy Kimmel Openly Confronts His Own White Privilege

Jimmy Kimmel seemed to observe “Blackout Tuesday” as the opening monologue contained a reflection of his own white privilege.

He said he had been talking with “very smart people” over the past week who have told him that now is the time to listen, but he felt that it was his duty to talk to white America about how he misconstrued the definition of “white privilege.

“...To me, white privilege was what Donald Trump had, a wealthy father and a silver spoon in his mouth. It wasn’t what I grew up with. I rejected it because I didn’t understand what white privilege meant. But I think I do now.”

Kimmel went on to detail the everyday lives of black people who suffer from assumptions being made about them, sometimes several times a day, due to the color of their skin. Kimmel summed up the definition saying, “‘White privilege doesn’t mean your life hasn’t been hard. It just means the color of your skin isn’t one of the things that makes it harder.’ Wherever you stand, I don’t see how you can argue with that.”
