A New York tourist was arrested in Hawaii for defying the 14 day quarantine orders and for "unsworn falsification to authority." Hawaii has a mandatory order set in play for people arriving on the islands, a 14-day self-quarantine.
Once you land no the Island, you must self-quarantine for 14 days. Once you get to the Island, travelers aren't allowed to leave hotel rooms or residences for any reason except medical emergencies. During the stay, housekeeping services are on hold, and they must arrange food to be delivered to them. This rule was put in place to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
A 23-year-old tourist, Tarique Peters, was arrested in Hawaii after he posted Instagram pictures of himself getting a tan and carrying a surfboard, according to authorities.
According to a statement: "He allegedly left his hotel room the day he arrived and traveled many places using public transportation. Authorities became aware of his social media posts from citizens who saw posts of him - on the beach with a surfboard, sunbathing, and walking around Waikiki at night."
He was arrested on Friday by agents from the state attorney general's office, and his bail was set at $4,000. When hotel staff was questioned, he said they saw Peters leave his room and the hotel many times throughout his stay.
