Racist Prom Sign Comes with Consequences

If you haven't seen it yet, on a piece of white poster paper, in large stenciled letters, the teen wrote, "If I was black I'd be picking cotton... but I'm white so I'm picking u 4 prom?"

The student has since apologized, but people are not having it and the school has responded, saying that the student is no longer allowed at any school activities, which includes prom and graduation.

School administrators are investigating a "promposal" posted by a high school senior in Sarasota on social media that many found racist and offensive.

An 18-year-old senior from Riverview High School posted the photo of himself holding a homemade sign saying, "If I was black I'd be picking cotton, but I'm white so I'm picking U 4 prom?"

Outrage grew in the responses to the photo.

Some people took screenshots of the post and shared it on other platforms, commenting that the student shouldn't be allowed to go to prom at all, and that the post was shameful and unnecessary. (via YouTube)
