'Immigrants (We Get The Job Done)' Speaks Volume

Anytime I am listening to music, I tend to appreciate a song more, when a powerful message is conveyed. There's nothing better than when a song can give me the “proud to be an American” feels.

Recently, Lin-Manuel Miranda produced the video for the latest song “Immigrants (We Get The Job Done)” off the Hamilton Mixtape featuring K'Naan, Residente, Riz MC & Snow Tha Product. The video gives a different perspective to the term, “immigrant" -- since now more than ever -- has been given a negative connotation.

If you’ve been paying attention to current events, you will see that there are a lot of people from all over the world who have been affected by the idea that, “’Immigrant’ has somehow become a bad word”. And although history has proven that immigrants make society thrive, history also shows, “racist feed the belly of the beast. With they pitchforks, rich chores, done by the people that get ignored” – “So the debate rages on and we continue....”

The visual director, Tomas Whitmore, shows people from different ethnicities portraying the hard-work it has taken to make America great. Even if the people are being exploited. Female rapper, Snow Tha Product, said it best, “Peter piper claimed he picked them, he just underpaid Pablo”!

Each featured artist gives their own personal take on what it means to be an immigrant in America. The lyrics are mixed with both English and Spanish verses

Ahh…to express in more than one language is just one of the many great things about this melting pot of a country- amIrite?
