California Secretary of State Alex Padilla has been appointed to fill the Senate seat vacated by Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris.
Gov. Gavin Newsom announced on Tuesday to the public about the Senate's vacated seat.
Padilla will be in the seat until 2022, when Harris' term ends.
Padilla's political career began when he was elected to the Los Angeles City Council at 26.
He is a former state Senator and has served as Secretary of State since 2014.
