Our hearts and prayers are Jairo’s loved ones, this is heartbreaking.
A 31-year-old scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers has died from complications of COVID-19, the team announced.
Jairo Castillo, who previously worked for the Toronto Blue Jays and Milwaukee Brewers, lost his fight against the virus in his native Dominican Republic, according to Dodgers president, Andrew Friedman.
"We are heartbroken over the loss of Jairo Castillo, who recently passed away in the Dominican Republic," Friedman says.
"Tragically, Jairo’s promising baseball career was just getting started and his death will be felt deeply by everyone who crossed paths with him."
It's unclear whether Castillo -- a husband and father of two -- had any underlying conditions that may have contributed to his death.
