Lt. Brian Zach of the Kingman Police Department in Arizona responded to a call to check a four-year-old's residence.
It would be life-changing. Lt. Zach found Kaila, a four-year-old who had been the victim of abuse.
While waiting for detectives to arrive at the scene, Kaila and Zach bonded.
After Child Protective Services could not find a safe home for her, the office stepped in and fostered the child for two years.
They even saw her change, as she went from know tiny words to speaking all of the time.
After those two years of fostering, Zach and his wife officially welcomed Kaila into their family when they adopted her in August.
