How To Keep Your Pets Safe While Fireworks Are Going Off

If you have pets, you know the deal every Fourth Of July: while your neighbors are celebrating, ol' Fido is cowering under the couch.

Animal experts note that fireworks sound much, much louder to dogs than to the average human, leading to all sorts of physical and emotional trauma.

There's the potential for Rover to escape the home, says Temma Martin, public relations manager for the Best Friends Animal Society, noting, "Dogs have been known to dig under or jump over fences, break tethers or even shatter windows in response to their fireworks fears."

A few suggestions to keep your pets safe this holiday include:

Making sure they're microchipped and collared: You may not be able to control your pet pet jumping a fence. It's better to be safe tha sorry.

Exercise: Test show a tired dog is a calmer dog & A happy cat is a more relaxed cat. Exercise & activities burn off extra energy, thus limiting anxiety later when it's time to sleep.

Distract your pet: Hook your pet up with new toys and long-lasting chews and treats. Food puzzles may also keep them distracted from the loud noises.

Last but definitely not least, LOVE ON YOUR PET.

Hope this helps.
