The Imagineers announced on Thursday that Disneyland & Disney World are reinventing Splash Mountain in both California and Florida. They will now take on the theme of The Princess and the Frog. The project has been in the works since last year but due to Covid-19 Disney has not announced when construction will begin.
Splash Mountain was based on a 1946 movie Song of the South that was set on a southern plantation after the Civil War. The movie was criticized for glorifying plantation slavery and promoting Black stereotypes.
The reviews for the change are mixed.
