However, Variety is reporting that R. Kelly was removed from the roster of current RCA artists via their website.
This comes after pressure for the label to drop the singer mounted when the docuseries Surviving R. Kelly aired, which detailed the sexual misconduct and abuse of women R. Kelly was involved with.
An industry insider told Variety that the decision to release Kelly from his contract had been one that Sony/RCA had been mulling over, even before the release of the docuseries.
Women’s group, Ultraviolet, even got a plane to fly a sign over Sony’s Los Angeles offices and they also held a protest outside. Kelly’s catalog will stay with Sony/RCA.
