As a woman, you know how daunting it can be to remove your makeup every night, especially when all you want to do is just go to bed after a long, hard day. But what if not doing this simple but important chore affected your health?
A 50-year-old Australian woman wore heavy eye makeup for over 25 years and never washed it off at the end of the day. Theresa Lynch developed a build-up of small black lumps on the inside of her eyelids which took doctors 90 minutes to remove!
“Every time Theresa was blinking these bumps were rubbing on the surface of the eye and they pose a risk to her vision,” said ophthalmologist Dr. Dana Robaei.
Nonetheless, not washing off your makeup could pose a health risk, the hard solid masses of mascara on the inside of her upper lid began eroding through the surface of her lids. Masses like these could lead to cyst formation, inflammation and ultimately irritation of the lid or eyeball itself.
