Any bit helps when it comes to getting through the checkout line faster. Target and Walmart are making a change that will help us all out. These stores and other retailers are getting rid of having to sign a receipt at checkout. Signing a piece of paper or a screen isn't necessary that much anymore due to the emergence of chip cards. If you have an EMV chip on your card, it makes the practice of signing pointless. American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa have all announced their intent to stop the signing step at the register. The major big box stores are falling in line. The process of eliminating the signature step may take longer at mom and pop stores or businesses that use the Square-type swipe on a tablet or cellphone.
