Lone Pine Earthquake Gives Some Southland Residents a Shake

A Magnitude 5.8 earthquake in the Lone Pine area in Inyo county shook up some Southern California residents today.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake struck at about 10:40 a.m. People across the Southland reported light shaking in areas like the San Fernando Valley, West Los Angeles and Orange County.

There were no reports of damage or injuries.

The quake comes two days after a smaller Magnitude 4.6 hit the area. Seismologists now consider that quake a foreshock and this the main earthquake, unless a stronger quake rocks the area. Seismologist Lucy Jones said that like every quake that hits, there is a 5% chance of something bigger hitting.
