2 Gorillas Test Positive For COVID-19

Prague Zoo Live Streams Feeding In Coronavirus Charity Bid

Well, this is out of the ordinary.

According to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, two of their gorillas have tested positive for COVID-19. The zoo announced the news on Monday, January 11th. The zoo also said a third gorilla has related-symptoms but did not test positive. However, several others may also be infected.

"Aside from some congestion and coughing, the gorillas are doing well," said Lisa Peterson, executive director of San Diego Zoo Safari Park. "The troop remains quarantined together and are eating and drinking. We are hopeful for a full recovery."

The gorillas' fecal matter was tested after two of them began coughing and exhibiting "other mild symptoms" on January 6, the zoo said in a press release. The tests came back positive on January 8 and were confirmed by the USDA's National Veterinary Services Laboratories today.
