You can say what you want about LeBron James but he is the most socially conscious athletes of his generation.
James officially opened the I Promise School in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. The school opened it's doors to 240 students earlier today and is intended to serve underprivileged kids from 1st grade to 8th grade in the next four years.
The 33-year-old took to his Twitter to talk about his new initiative last night, “The jitters before the first day of school are real right now!!!”
“Tomorrow is going to be one of the greatest moments (if not the greatest) of my life when we open the #IPROMISE School,” he tweeted. “This skinny kid from Akron who missed 83 days of school in the 4th grade had big dreams…”
