On this day 35 years ago, Michael Jackson changed pop culture when he moonwalked on TV for the first time.
Jackson debuted the move on the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever, which was a televised celebration of the label that brought so many stars to the forefront of the music industry.
The show initially wanted the performers to do greatest hits from Motown, but Michael wanted to do a new song he had called, "Billie Jean."
After producers saw Jackson's rehearsal for the song, the rest was history.
The first moonwalk was pretty quick. It lasted for only two and half seconds, but it evolved into something so incredibly special and iconic.
