The Chung family from San Jose, California just came back from a family reunion in Vietnam. When they opened their mail, they discovered an out of control phone bill. T-Mobile charged Vivian Chung $13,470 for internet access on her son's iPhone.
Chung said there's no way this could be true because the phone was on airplane mode. The charge happened in a half-hour period while the family was flying into Vietnam. The son, Nicholas, admitted to playing chess on his phone but swears it was in airplane mode.
The family got in touch with T-Mobile about the situation and said they would reduce the bill by $3,800. A bay-area news investigation team called T-Mobile about the story and the company decided to drop the rest of the charges.
