Earlier this week, it was reported that Listerine was effective to fight against COVID-19. However, according to a Cardiff University study, the mouthwash is not intended to prevent or treat COVID.

Listerine's Consumer Health division stated that Listerine should be used only as directed on the product label and that it only is "an antimicrobial mouthwash that is clinically proven to kill germs that cause plaque, bad breath and the early gum disease, gingivitis."

On the product website, the company posted "Listerine Usage Guidelines and COVID-19 Outbreak," which reads: "We encourage Consumers to learn about and follow guidance provided by the World Health Organization."

As recommended to prevent getting COVID-19, it is highly suggested to wear a face mask, wash your hands throughout the day, and maintain social distance. from contracting
