Disney is set to make history with it's new live-action remake of our beloved Beauty And The Beast. Why? Well because it will be the first time in the history of Disney that there is an openly gay character/storyline within the film.
Lefou, who we know, from the animated version of Beauty And The Beast, to be Gaston's sidekick will now have more to his story and character than just a part of the antagonist's crew.
Director Bill Condon sat with Attitude magazine and shared:
“LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston,” reveals Condon.
“He’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realising that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that’s what has its payoff at the end, which I don’t want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.”
