Is this fair?

In a 10-to-one vote, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors has approved an ordinance that bans smoking tobacco in city apartments -- but made sure the legislation includes an exception for cannabis.

The law, which was designed to reduce the dangers of secondhand tobacco smoke, makes it illegal to smoke cigarettes and other tobacco products inside buildings with three or more attached apartment units, punishable by a $1,000 fine.

The law specifically provides a loophole for medical marijuana and "adult-use" weed.

"Secondhand smoke causes harm, and everyone should have clean air to breathe where they live," says supervisor Norman Yee, who introduced the legislation.

The law needs to be approved by Mayor London Breed before it becomes official.
