Police Officer Killed by Rooster In Bizarre Incident

Cockfighting in Puerto Rico

Have you ever faced off with an angry bird?

A police officer has been killed in the Philippines while breaking up an illegal cockfighting ring -- not by one of the operators, but by a rooster.

Lieutenant Chris Bolok helped round up suspects during Wednesday's raid when a rooster -- which had a razor blade attached to its leg for fighting -- attacked him, slashing his thigh, authorities say.

The blade struck Bolok's femoral artery, causing him to bleed out. "This is the first time in my 25 years as a policeman that I lost a man due to a fighting cock's spur," says Police Chief Colonel Arnel Apud.

Although the barbaric practice is illegal in the U.S., cockfighting is permitted on Sundays and holidays in the Philippines.

However, the activity has been suspended during the coronavirus pandemic.
