Professor Researching COVID-19 Was Killed in an Apparent Murder-Suicide

A professor working on coronavirus research was found shot dead on Saturday in his home in Pittsburgh.

Bing Liu, 37, was found in his home with wounds in his head, neck, torso, and extremities.

The body of 46-year-old Hao Gu, was also found an hour later in a car near by the home were Bing Liu was found.

It is believed that the two knew each other, investigators believe that Gu killed Lui then went back to his car and dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

It is unclear as to motive at the moment. Liu was a researcher at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine "on the verge of making very significant findings" related to COVID-19, says the university.

"We will make an effort to complete what we started in an effort to pay homage to his scientific excellence", the university said.
