Look this is been a hot topic of discussion, Vic Mensa took a shot at XXXTentacion during the 2018 BET Hip-Hop Awards Cypher. This was pre-recorded so we knew early on that it would be televised, the issue many were having is that on top of X being deceased, his mother Cleopatra was in the audience as she was there to receive New Hip-Hop Artist award on behalf of her son. There are strong sentiments that Mensa was wrong and disrespectful. The diss was censored but this is what he said, “Only time you bear arms is in a wife beater, loser. Your favorite rapper is a domestic abuser. Name a single Vic Mensa song, XXX we all know you won’t live that long. I don’t respect ni***s posthumously, homicide ain’t new to me, catch up with Akademiks at your eulogy.”
Vic previously owned up to it on his IG and apologized to his mother as he did not know she would be in the audience but that didn't stop him by standing by what he said, “Recently, I did a freestyle for the BET Award cypher addressing and condemning rappers who unabashedly abuse women and those who stand up for them and even call them legends,” Mensa said. “I stand behind those statements. It was prerecorded weeks ago and I had no idea a grieving mother would be in the audience to honor her lost son. I never intended to disrespect her and offer my deepest condolences for her loss at the hands of gun violence,” he continued. “However, I vehemently reject the trend in hip-hop of championing abusers and I will not hold my tongue about it. I don’t give a fuck about getting attention. I care about bringing awareness and holding people accountable for their actions.”
Do you think Vic Mensa was wrong for this?
