Uber is launching a new safety feature in select cities.
According to a new press release, the feature will allow both the driver and the passenger to record audio from the ride.
As soon as a trip begins the driver and the passenger will be given the option to record audio through the app.
When 'Record Audio' is selected both parties can separately record the trip. The app will let riders know when they are being recorded.
When the ride ends the audio will be encrypted and saved on the rider and driver's devices. The only way Uber will have access to the audio is if the driver or passenger emails the file as part of a dispute.
The feature was initially tested Latin America nearly two years ago and is currently available in 14 countries, including Mexico and Brazil
The new audio feature launches next month in select test cities.
