During an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Denzel Washington said he was surprised by Chadwick's decision to keep his illness private.
He recalled seeing his now-wife, Simone, care for Chadwick on set.
"I use to watch how she took care of him, and I actually said to him, 'man you need to put a ring on that finger.'"
Denzel took notice of how Simone took care of Chadwick and looked over him on the set.
The couple were engaged in October 2019 and secretly married at an unspecified date.
