Watch out old cell phone batteries are going off and starting dumpster fires. Waste management workers are having to put out fires after "zombie" cellphone batteries are bursting into flames.
So rechargeable lithium-ion batteries power things like mobile phones, tablets, laptops, watches, e-cigarettes and toothbrushes. But are pretty convenient for people but they can be volatile under certain conditions and when people dont recycle them the right way they can set off fires later on.
“Fires caused by carelessly discarded zombie batteries endanger lives, cause millions of pounds of damage and disrupt waste services,” said Hayler.
