Swizz Beats made a comment while on IG Live with Joe Budden explaining that he believes rappers should be paying taxes to hip hop trailblazers like DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash and more.
Swizz said, "I wanna raise a million dollars for each icon that started hip-hop, Kool Herc on down,the fact we're not paying taxes on who started hip-hop shows that we don't fucking really love hip-hop. The fact that we don't pay taxes as artists to those icons that paved the way, took the lower cut for the music that allow us to feed our families. We need to be paying taxes to the creatives of hip-hop that gave us freedom of speech to go forward.”
It was interpreted as Swizz saying that the younger hip hop artists had to pay the older hip hop artists but that was not what he was saying.
This is a personal cause for Swizz because his father grew up one floor apart from Kool Herc, one of the architects of hip hop.
I want to start a pioneer fund with the founders of Hip Hop getting taken cared of. The founders shouldn't need medical. They should be in a great situation.
LL Cool J said he is 100% on board to assist Swizz Beats in this endeavor and will contribute. He said that Swizz has been talking about this for awhile.
