While a number of states are moving toward lifting coronavirus restrictions, the governor of Illinois on Thursday went the opposite direction by extending his stay-at-home order by a month.
Previously set to expire on April 30th, Governor JB Pritzker's stay-at-home order has been extended until the end of May. He says he made the decision after receiving overnight data that revealed the state has 1,826 new cases of COVID-19 and an additional 123 deaths.
The new numbers bring the totals up to 36,934 confirmed cases and 1,688 deaths.
"We are in possibly the most difficult part of this journey," Pritzker says.
"I know how much we all want our normal lives back. Believe me, if I could make that happen, I would. But this is the part where we have to dig in and we have to understand that the sacrifices we have made as a state are working and we need to keep going a little while longer to finish the job."
Should California extend the order as well?
