Bronx Teen Admits to Staging her Kidnapping

A Bronx teen whose apparent broad-daylight kidnapping sparked a citywide manhunt and national outrage has confessed to staging the incident.

Karol Sanchez, 16, was standing on a street corner with her mom Monday when two men jumped out of a car, threw her mother to the ground and grabbed Sanchez.

A video of the incident quickly went viral as police put an Amber Alert into effect and scrambled to find the find the teen before she was harmed.

Sanchez later reappeared in the same area she'd been taken from, approaching two cops who were sitting in a patrol car. "She was trembling while she was walking," says Akash Singh, a construction worker who witnessed the incident. "She just looked really scared. She put her hands on her and knees and she started talking to the cops. They jumped out of the car and put her in." After taking Sanchez to a nearby police station, she confessed to arranging the abduction so she could be with her boyfriend, a 23-year-old member of the Crips gang, according to the NYPD.

Although police say they're not planning on filing charges against Sanchez, they're looking for her fake abductors -- and her boyfriend, whom investigators believe was in the car with another man. Considering the money that must have been spent to find her, shouldn't Sanchez be charged with a crime?
