The Real Reason Instagram Is Getting Rid of "Likes" Is For Business!

If you're on Instagram, more than likely you've heard the great (or horrible - depending on how you look at it) news that they're about to take away "likes."

Personally, I'm excited, I love change the new change!

Now according to reports,

"This new move to hide like counts seems to be Instagram's next step in becoming a safer place to be, alongside algorithms and filters that will remove offensive comments or photos. While the overall goal is aspirational, some users have complained that hiding these engagement metrics will make it harder to figure out whose follower count is legitimate."

But what's the real reason?

MONEY.

Nicki Minaj posted a series of tweets explaining what she feels is the real reason of getting rid of her likes:

I’m not posting on IG after this week cuz they removing the likes. Hmmmm what should I get into now? Think of all the time I’ll have with my new life
We are so easily pacified. Harriet would never. Y’all smoking dick if y’all think labels ain’t pissed about the level of power independent artists now have by way of IG. They all work TOGETHER. Unlike us… settling for crumbs. But memba when I spoke on other shit b4 it happened?
And who do you think is controlling those numbers? so that influencers can be out here “influencing” ppl to LIKE all the new stuff they bout to do? They gotta get y’all on board to spread the word. Just like how YouTube can take away or add a million views @ any given moment 😛
They took away your engagements in the first place by disrupting the algorithm. Then they boost it to show you how much better this new iPhone is. I mean how much better this new IG feature is. —- lemme guess, u don’t believe your iPhone messes up when the new iPhone comes out…
The fact that you think my convo is about “likes” is even funnier. I mean… sad… and a lil bit scary. (I’d insert the same GIF but I don’t know how to).

So according to Nicki, Instagram users have become social media stars because of the power of likes on the platform which is a clear indication of their influence and reach - now IG wants to take that power away from people.

What do you believe?

I'm personally glad the likes are going way because I think it'll improve mental health in people, they won't compare themselves to others AS MUCH.

We gotta help people!
