LOS ANGELES (CNS) - USC cornerback Josh Shaw is the subject of a police investigation into a possible domestic incident involving his girlfriend, police said today.

Shaw's name originally came up in connection with a burglary investigation at his girlfriend's downtown Los Angeles apartment.

The cornerback's attorney, Donald Etra, has told reporters Shaw has spoken to police investigators. The lawyer considers the matter closed.

Shaw lives in the same apartment building as his girlfriend.

He was suspended from the team indefinitely Wednesday after admitting he fabricated a story about injuring his ankles by leaping from a second-floor balcony to save his 7-year-old nephew from a swimming pool.

The football player has not explained how he injured his ankles other than to say he was hurt in a fall on Saturday.

USC announced on Monday Shaw had suffered two high-ankle sprains by jumping from a balcony during a family gathering in Palmdale to save his 7-year-old nephew on Saturday.

Trojan coach Steve Sarkisian said on Tuesday the university had received calls contradicting Shaw's story.
