Cyclists discovered the body of a woman in Yorba Linda Tuesday and authorities said it appeared the woman was the victim of a homicide.

Detectives and police dogs were seen searching for evidence along Live Oak Dr. and neighbors who’s homes offered a view of the scene said they could see a significant amount of blood near the body.

Orange County Sheriff’s Department dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call about the body around 5:40 a.m., said Lt. Jeff Hallock, a department spokesman.

“Discovered a female African-American laying on the side of the roadway kind of near the curb, or laying up over the curb,” he said.

Hallock declined to provide any information about why detectives were convinced the woman was murdered, but said it appeared to be an isolated incident – rather than a random attack – and said the woman did not live in the neighborhood where the body was found.
